Athirappilly attracts tourists from all over the world because of its stunning natural beauty. Located in the Thrissur district of Kerala, Athirappilly is famous for its scenic waterfalls, which are among the largest in India and a major tourist attraction.

It is a narrow stretch of land flanked on one side by the Arabian Sea and on the other side by the Western Ghats mountain ranges. Palm-fringed backwaters, scenic beaches, misty mountains, evergreen rainforests, gushing streams, and waterfalls make this ancient spice capital of the world the most sought-after tourist destination. Climate of Athirappilly

Athirappilly experiences a tropical climate throughout the year. Summers (March to May) are warm, with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 30°C to a minimum of 20°C. Winters (December to February) are pleasant, with temperatures dropping to around 18°C. Monsoons (June to September) bring heavy rainfall, adding to the beauty of the waterfalls.

The best time to visit Athirappilly is from September to January, when the weather is most pleasant and the waterfalls are in full flow. However, Athirappilly can be visited throughout the year, with each season offering a unique experience.

Getting to Athirappilly

Driving up to Athirappilly can be an adventurous experience, especially if you enjoy winding roads through lush landscapes. As you travel through the narrow roads, you'll witness various shades of green, from the dense forests to the verdant plantations.

If you are determined to reach Athirappilly quickly and are traveling in a reasonably good car, it takes about 2 hours from Kochi, which is approximately 70 km away. The route from Kochi to Athirappilly extends through Angamaly and Chalakudy.

Private and government-operated (KSRTC - Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) buses are available to various locations in Kerala. Buses are an economical way to reach Athirappilly. Regular bus services to nearby towns like Chalakudy and Thrissur are operated by the Kerala Government.

KSRTC has a bus station in Chalakudy, which is well-connected to Athirappilly. Tourist cars, jeeps, and auto-rickshaws are available for local transportation. Bicycles and bikes can also be rented for daily use.
